Medical Marijuana Inc (OTCMKTS:MJNA) has announced that it has been granted approval by the Brazilian government, to import its CBD RSHO in the country. The drug would be imported by MJNA subsidiary HempMeds Brasil, as a prescription medication for the treatment of cancer. This is the fourth approved indication for RSHO in the country, following epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease and chronic pain. It should be noted here that RSHO has also been recently approved for import in Mexico as well, thereby increasing the presence of MJNA in South America.
Dr. Stuart Titus, the CEO of Medical Marijuana, stated that until the drug is fully approved in the country, the management will have to temper is excitement. He was of the view that the approval procedure required that the company proceeded with caution. Mr. Titus also stated that this opens new doors for RSHO, to become a post chemotherapy drug or even the primary treatment option in some cases. He further clarified that the approval to import the drug does not mean that RSHO is approved by the regulatory body. However, the laws in Brazil allowed doctors to write prescriptions for drugs, which they believe would be beneficial for the patient.
In the US, MJNA markets RSHO as a dietary supplement, rather than a medical drug. However, consumers of RSHO have reported experiencing health benefits, after using the product. The company plans to use these stories and its own research, to publicize the health benefits of botanical cannabis. The CEO is also due to meet with Raul Elizalde, a campaigner for the use of medical cannabis in Mexico. MJNA’s RSHO-X, is currently the only approved cannabis based product in the country. With some help from Mr. Elizalde, MJNA could quickly expand its market in the country.
